Hoosier Philly, winner of the $200,000 Dig A Diamond S. a month ago at Oaklawn Park, will look to make it two stakes wins in a row in Saturday’s $275,000 Shawnee S. (G3) at Churchill Downs.
The Candy Meadows-bred 4-year-old filly looked very good at Oaklawn, circling the field to win by 3 ¾-lengths. Saturday’s upcoming race will be a half-furlong longer, at 1 1/16-miles, a distance that Hoosier Philly has had success at, particularly at Churchill Downs, where she won both the Golden Rod S. (G2) and Rags to Riches S. as a 2-year-old.
Ironically, the Shawnee will mark the Gold Standard Racing Stable LLC color bearer’s first start in Louisville since the Golden Rod.
The Shawnee drew a field of 10 distaffers. Hoosier Philly’s main foe looks to be Wet Paint, the 2023 Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) winner who Hoosier Philly defeated last year in the Monomoy Girl S. at Ellis Park. Xigera, in post 7, won the Falls City (G3) last November, while Scylla, in post 8, was a very sharp allowance winner Derby Day at Churchill.
Hoosier Philly is in post nine for trainer Tom Amoss and jockey Edgar Morales. The Shawnee is race 8, with a post time of 4:23 pm ET.
