Cheyenne Stables LLC’s homebred 3-year-old colt Eakly will make his first stakes race start in 10 months when he goes postward in the $50,000 Oklahoma Stallion Colts & Geldings H. on Sept. 8 at Remington Park.
A son of Caleb’s Posse, who won the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1), Eakly is making just his second start of the year. The first came on Aug. 23, when he turned in a very sharp winning effort, by 3 ¼-lengths, in a six-furlong allowance, also at Remington.
Friday’s race will be at seven furlongs, the first time the bay colt has raced at that distance, though he was third in the D C McNeill S. at a mile as a 2-year-old. His overall record is 2-2-2 in nine starts.
Eakly is the first foal out of Candy Meadows-bred Vian, an unraced daughter of Lohhro (AUS). Eakly’s family traces back to multiple stakes winners Lotta Lovin and third dam Passionate Bird.
Friday’s race drew a field of nine, with Eakly in post 2 for trainer Donnie K Von Hemel. Post time for the seventh race will be 9:55 CT.
