Cheyenne Stable LLC’s homebred filly Style Points drew post 1 in a field of 13 for the $250,000 Virginia Oaks on Sept. 7 at Colonial Downs as she seeks her first stakes win.
The 3-year-old filly was tantalizingly close to victory in a pair of Grade 3 stakes earlier this year, running second in both the Sweetest Chant S. at Gulfstream Park and the Florida Oaks at Tampa Bay downs. Both those races, like the Virginia Oaks, were on the turf.
Style Points, who is trained by Christophe Clement, will be ridden for the first time on Saturday by Manny Franco, who replaces Jose Ortiz. The latter rode Style Points in her most recent race, a good third-place effort in the July 8 Christiana S. at Delaware Park.
Style Points is by top turf sire Oscar Performance and is out of Grade 2 turf winner Mystical Star. Other than her debut race last November, Style Points has never been worse than third and has earned $181,605.
The 1 1/8-mile Virginia Oaks is race 9 on Saturday’s card, with a post time of 5:40 pm ET.
