Cheyenne Stable LLC and John O’Meara’s brilliant sprinter Roses for Debra scored her biggest career win to date on Sept. 20 when she set a new track record in winning the $300,000 Presque Isle Downs Masters S. (G2).
The 5-year-old gray daughter of Liam’s Map set a track record of 1:13.92 for the 6 ½-furlongs on the synthetic surface. She is now a three-time graded stakes winner and five-time stakes winner overall.
With Irad Ortiz, Jr. in the irons, Roses for Debra rated close to the pace along the rail, with She’s Fire getting a half-mile in a quick :44.98. Roses for Debra, in the two-path on the turn and into the stretch, angled in and then out-fought Pandora’s Gift(IRE) to win by a neck.
“I think she loved the track,” said winning jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. “She used to run here and she loves it. She’s undefeated here.
“I bided my time and sat right behind the speed. I had nowhere to go, so I just had to wait and try to find a hole. Turning for home I see the rail is open, so I go for it and she responded
well. She was ready to run.”
Trained by Christophe Clement, Roses for Debra is now 9-2-2 in 15 starts and has earned $817,868. Her previous graded wins came in this year’s Giant’s Causeway S. (G3) at Keeneland and the 2023 Caress S. (G3) at Saratoga.
