Hoosier Philly, a five-time stakes winner bred by Candy Meadows, became racing’s newest millionaire with her second-place finish in the $200,000 Dig A Diamond S. April 26 at Oaklawn Park.
The 5-year-old was attempting to repeat her victory in the 2024 renewal, and with a gallant effort came up just short of Majestic Oops. The $38,000 payday for the runner-up slot pushed Hoosier Philly’s earnings to $1,102,465.
Hoosier Philly’s five stakes wins are topped by her victory in the Golden Rod S. (G2) at Churchill Downs, where she also won the Rags to Riches S. during her 2-year-old campaign. At 3, she won the Monomoy Girl at Ellis Park, and last year wrapped up her 4-year-old season with a win in the Joseph Spanky Broussard Memorial S. at Fair Grounds.
Hoosier Philly is out of Tapella, who is also the dam of American Promise, winner of this year’s Virginia Derby who will break from post 5 in Saturday’s $5 million Kentucky Derby (G1).
