Ozara (IRE) finishes strong to win $300,000 Ballston Spa S. (G2)

Ozara (IRE) became Cheyenne Stable LLC’s newest graded stakes winner with her victory in Friday’s $300,000 Ballston Spa S. (G2) at Saratoga.

The 4-year-old filly is a perfect three-for-three over the Saratoga turf, including a win in the De La Rose S. on July 10.

In the 1 1/16-mile Ballston Spa, Ozara sat just a couple lengths off the lead, biding her time as Edict (ARG) led the way for six furlongs. Ozara was in tight quarters in upper stretch, then after finding clear running inside the furlong marker, rocketed to the front and “absolutely toyed with them”, in the words of track announcer Frank Mirahmadi, as she came home a 1 ½-length winner in 1:39.65 on a firm turf course.

“It’s nice to be hanging with the red-hot Miguel Clement stable,” Cheyenne Stable’s owner Everett Dobson, told Saratoga Live. “This filly’s just gotten better and better. I don’t know what her upside is, but every race she just gets a little better.”

The bay filly now has seven wins, two seconds, and two thirds from 13 career starts and has earned $598,257.

Trainer Miguel Clement said that Ozara could soon end up in Grade 1 company, with the G1 First Lady on Oct. 4 at Keeneland or G1 Matriarch in November at Del Mar as potential options.
