Cheyenne Stable LLC’s turf specialist Mondego (GB), who had challenging circumstances in his last two graded stakes outings, will look for better fortune in Friday’s $200,000 Hollywood Turf Cup (G2) at Del Mar.

After finishing less than three lengths from the front in both the John Henry Turf (G2) and Del Mar H. (G2) in his latest two outings, the 5-year-old drew the outside post in the field of nine in Friday’s 1 ½-marathon. The outside draw should not be an obstacle for a Mondego’s deep closing style.

To date, Mondego’s lone stakes placing came in the Belmont Derby Inv. (G1) during his 3-year-old campaign, though he was unlucky to add to that tally in her last two starts.

Trained by Michael McCarthy since returning to the races this summer, Mondego will be ridden by Kazushi Kimura for the fourth consecutive time on Saturday. Post time for the Turf Cup is 6:32 pm ET.
