After running a solid second in last year’s Barbara Fritchie S. (G2), Cheyenne Stables, Southern Equine Stable and Gatewood Bell’s Clothes Fall Off is back for another try in Laurel Park’s signature distaff sprint stakes.
Following the 2016 Fritchie, Clothes Fall Off won the $125,000 Correction S. at Aqueduct and was off the board following a tough trip in the Madison (G1) at Keeneland, then got a break until the six-furlong Interborough S. at Aqueduct Jan. 22.
“I wish she would have run better last time,” trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said of the Interborough. “She broke and was kind of chasing, and I don’t think she wanted to be chasing. She just flattened out down the lane. She’ll improve a lot from the run. She had been off and she’s come back and worked well since. She’s doing well, so we think she’ll run well. She liked the (Laurel) track last year.”
Classy Class’s remarkably consistent career includes 10 first or second finishes in her 13 starts. The 5-year-old has earned $369,160.
The daughter of Daaher drew post seven in the field of eight going seven furlongs, with a scheduled post time of 4:30 p.m. ET for the ninth race.
