It took a lifetime best race by Dancing House to deny victory to stablemate Clothes Fall Off in the $300,000 Barbara Fritchie S. (G2) Saturday at Laurel Park, with the Cheyenne Stables colorbearer closing strongly in the final furlong to finish a clear second in the seven furlong contest.
In between horses on the backstretch, Clothes Fall Off secured the rail spot a couple lengths off the lead on the turn. Jevian Toledo had to move his mount to the outside to go around horses in the stretch, and once in the clear made a solid move in the final furlong to best third-place finisher and 3-2 favorite by 1 ½-lengths.
“That was fabulous. I was very excited. It was a very tough, tough race. Both fillies ran great. I’m very, very happy to be first and second,” said trainer Kiaran McLaughlin by phone from Gulfstream Park.
“No (plans for their next races),” said McLaughlin added when asked what’s next for his two fillies. “We’ve been pointing to this for a while with both. We’re really happy to win this. “We’ll look ahead, but we’re real happy to be first and second. I thank Laurel for running today (despite the very cold temperatures).”
Clothes Fall Off has been ultra-consistent her entire career, finish worse than second only once in 10 starts. The $60,000 payday upped her earnings to $290,160.\
