Gary Barber, Cheyenne Stable LLC, and Wachtel Stable’s three-time Grade 1 winner is part of a stellar field of 14 in Saturday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) at Keeneland.
Rhetorical got two of those Grade 1 scores at Keeneland, in back-to-back runnings of the Turf Mile (G1), the latter coming on Oct. 3, his most recent start. His other came in this year’s Turf Classic (G1) on Derby Day at Churchill Downs.
Beaten just two lengths in last year’s Mile at Del Mar, Rhetorical once again will face off with Notable Speech and Formidable Man, who were 1-2 in last year’s Breeders’ Cup.
The elite field also includes the likes of Deterministic, Blue Bolt (IRE), winner of four straight Grade 1 races, and the filly True Love (IRE), a Grade 1 winner in three countries.
Trained by Will Walden, Rhetorical will be ridden by Jose Ortiz, who has been aboard for all the 5-year-old’s graded wins.
Post time for Saturday’s race, the 9th on the card, is 4:20 pm ET.
