Bay Storm draws rail for Churchill’s $300,000 Unbridled Sidney S.

Candy Meadows LLC-bred Bay Storm was assigned post 1 in a full field of 12 fillies and mares set to contest the $300,000 Unbridled Sidney S. Friday at Churchill Downs.

Bay Storm, who is trained by Jonathan Thomas for Bridlewood Farm, has been ultra-consistent in her career. From 13 starts to date, the 5-year-old dark bay has finished worse than third only once, sporting a record of 4-5-3 and earnings of $521,080.

Drawing the rail can be a tough spot in short turf races like Friday’s 5 ½-furlong sprint, but Bay Storm has considerable gate speed, and jockey John Velazquez has ridden her to victory in the Christicat S. from that very post.

Bridlewood bought Bay Storm for $400,000 at the 2020 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale, where she was consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds. Her dam Stormy Regatta, who was a two-time stakes winner, has had three foals to race to date.

The Unbridled Sidney is race 8 on Friday’s card, with a scheduled post time of 3:03 pm ET.
