Cheyenne Stable LLC’s 3-year-old filly Ozara (IRE) turned in a very sharp-looking effort in winning Saturday’s $125,000 Ginger Brew S. at Gulfstream park.
The bay daughter of Lope de Vega (IRE) has won two straight stakes starts at the Gulfstream meet after scoring in the Wait A While S. on Dec. 9. Saturday’s win upped her record to 3-1-0 in five starts and earnings to $235,757.
Ozara got an ideal stalking trip in Saturday’s one-mile race. She broke alertly from post four and settled nicely along the fence, right behind the leaders, around the first turn. She held her spot down the backstretch and around the final bend.
Turning for home the pacesetter San Pantaleo drifted off the rail, and Ozara took advantage willing, shooting through the opening and powering away from the field to win convincingly in 1:33.85 on the firm turf.
“All the credit goes to Mr. Clement and his team,” said winning rider Tyler Gaffalione. “They brought her over ready to run and she fired big for us today. It worked out really well. She broke alertly and I was able to tuck in and save some ground. She traveled beautiful in hand and when the spot opened, she quickened right through and finished the job well.”
Ozara is trained by Christophe Clement and began her 2-year-old campaign last August with a debut maiden win at Saratoga and a subsequent second in the Chelsea Flower S. in late October at Aqueduct.
