Cheyenne Stable LLC’s multiple graded stakes winner Mondego (GB) next attempt to add to his tally will come Aug. 29 in the $300,000 Del Mar H. (G2) at the surfside southern California oval.
Winner of both the Charlie Whittingham S. (G2) and San Marcos S. (G2) this year, the turf marathon specialist has already won at Saturday’s 1 3/8-mile distance when he took a Del Mar allowance last year.
A son of the prolific sire Lope de Vega, Mondego has banked $539,547 and will be making his ninth straight graded stakes start on Saturday.
The Del Mar H. drew a field of 11, with Mondego in post eight for trainer Mike McCarthy and new jockey Antonio Fresu. Post time for Saturday’s 10th race is 6:30 pm PT.
