Cheyenne Stables, Grandview Equine and LNJ Foxwoods’ promising colt Homeland will make his 2020 debut in the $100,000 Dania Beach S. on Feb. 1 at Gulfstream Park.
The chestnut 3-year-old, who has raced exclusively on the grass, won his debut in late October at Belmont, then was beaten just a head on the Central Park S. Dec. 6 over the Aqueduct turf course.
Trained by Bill Mott, Homeland has been working very well at Payson Park in south Florida in anticipation of Saturday’s one-mile turf contest restricted to 3-year-olds. Homeland drew post three in the 12-horse field, with Jose Ortiz in the irons for the first time.
Homeland is son of American Pharoah, last year’s leading First-Crop sire and the 2015 Horse of the Year. Homeland’s dam Khancord Kid won the Herecomesthebride S. (G3) over the Gulfstream turf and has produced four foals, including Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) winner Bar of Gold.
The Dania Beach, race 10 on Saturday, runs at 4:34 p.m. ET.
