Opry draws post eight for BC Juvenile Turf (G1)

Cheyenne Stables LLC & Gaillardia Racing’s graded stakes winner Opry will make his Grade 1 debut in Friday’s $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) at Churchill Downs.

Opry earned his way into the Breeders’ Cup with a sparkling showing in the With Anticipation S. (G3) in late August at Saratoga, closing with a flourish to win by 1 1/2-lengths. A very wide trip and a yielding turf course at Belmont Park resulted in a game fourth-place finish in the Pilgrim S. (G3) last month.

Friday’s one-mile event drew a full field of 14, with Opry in post 8 and jockey Javier Castellano in the irons for trainer Todd Pletcher. The race has a definite international flare with five European shippers in the field.

The Turf is race 8 on Friday, with a post time of 5:22 p.m. ET.
