Ozara (IRE) comes up huge in return, wins Miss Liberty S.

Away from the races since last November, Cheyenne Stables LLC’s Ozara made a triumphant return to action with a half-length win in Saturday’s $100,000 Miss Liberty S. at Monmouth Park.

Away alertly from post 2, Ozara was under a snug hold in third passing under the wire for the first time. Racing along the rail, she held her spot down the backstretch as she waited for her cue. She got the nod passing the quarter pole, and responded with a sustained stretch drive to pass pacesetter Long Ago (GB) inside the final furlong.

The final time for the 1 1/16-miles on the firm turf was 1:43.15.

“This is absolutely what wanted to see off the [six-month layoff],”said assistant to Miguel Clement, Christophe Lorieul. “She was the class of the race. When I spoke to Miguel right after the race I told him that she was a bit rusty today. When [Manny Franco] asked her at the three-sixteenth pole she did it with class and showed some grit to get by a stubborn horse on the lead.

“We were trying to find the best spot for her off the layoff and this was a very good way to come back. She runs well fresh. She’s a star. This was the start of what we hope will be a good, long campaign. There are many options for her ahead so we’ll see what happens next.”

Ozara has now earned $666,882 in her stellar career. She has six stakes wins to her credit, topped by the 2025 Ballston Spa S. (G2) at Saratoga.
