Ozara (IRE) outfinishes stablemate to take Gulfstream’s Monroe S.

Cheyenne Stable LLC’s Ozara earned career stakes win number three in the $75,000 Monroe S. by 1 ½-lengths Saturday at Gulfstream Park.

The 4-year-old filly won the Wait A While S. in her final start as a 2-year-old and the Ginger Brew S. to kick off her 3-year-old campaign. Both of those wins also came over the Gulfstream turf course.

Ozara, in post 8 in Saturday’s 1 1/16-mile race, got away well and was third alongside fellow Christophe Clement trainee Breath Away (GB) going into the first turn. Longshot Swoonatra opened a big lead on the backstretch before the field began to reel her in entering the final turn. Ozara was three-wide as she swept to the front with a quarter-mile to run. Breath Away tried to keep up, but Ozara was too strong in the stretch and safely held the lead to the wire.

“They were the probably the two best fillies in the race and they ran like it today,” Miguel Clement, Christophe Clement’s son and assistant trainer, said of the barn’s 1-2 finishers.

Ozara is out of Cercle d’Or (IRE), a winning half-sister to English MG1SW and G1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Golden Horn (GB).

With Saturday’s win, Ozara’s record is 5-2-1 in 10 starts and her earnings stand at $344,007.
