Cheyenne Stables’ Paige battled gallantly in the stretch of Saturday’s $150,000 All Along S. at Laurel Park, finishing just a length behind graded stakes winner On Leave in the 1 1/16-mile turf contest for fillies and mares.
A stakes winner herself in last year’s Via Borghese on New Year’s Eve, Paige’s trip in the All Along was uneventful until the final quarter-mile, when she had to shift sharply from her rail position to the middle of the track. She regained her momentum, but too late to run down the winner.
Paige evened her record to 4-4-4 in 19 starts, with earnings of $307,819. The 5-year-old mare, who has won or placed in five stakes, is a daughter of Perfect Story, who is a half-sister to 2001 Horse of the Year Point Given.
