Grandview Equine, Cheyenne Stables and LNJ Foxwoods’ Shoplifted placed in a Grade 1 race for the second time in his career on June 20 in the Woody Stephens S. (G1) at Belmont Park.
Despite a four-wide trip around the sweeping Belmont turn, Shoplifted made up plenty of ground after being well back of the leaders early on. Kept to the task in the stretch, he finished up well to be third in what was considered the toughest 3-year-old sprint race of the year thus far.
Second in last year’s Hopeful S. (G1) at Saratoga, his first stakes start, the bay son of Into Mischief could be headed for that meet once again this summer. Saturday’s results upped Shoplifted’s record to 2-1-2 from nine starts, with earnings of $474,000.
