After a promising finish in last month’s Woody Stephens S. (G1) at Belmont, Shoplifted will make his next outing in Saturday’s $300,000 Allen Jerkens S. (G1) at Saratoga.
The 3-year-old colt, owned by Cheyenne Stables LLC, Grandview Equine and LNJ Foxwoods, is closing in on a half-million dollars in earnings after his solid third in the Woody Stephens.
The seven-furlong Jerkens drew a field of 11 sophomores, including No Parole and Echo Town, the one-two finishers in the Stephens. Shoplifted is in post seven for trainer Steve Asmussen and new jockey Tyler Gaffalione.
Since his last start on June 20, Shoplifted has had a pair of bullet works over the Saratoga track, signaling his affinity for the historic oval where he broke his maiden at first asking last summer, then followed that up with a runner-up effort in the Hopeful S. (G1).
Saturday’s race, the 10th on the card, is scheduled to run at 6:18 p.m. EDT.
