Shoplifted will kick off his 3-year-old campaign for owners Grandview Equine, Cheyenne Stables LLC and LNJ Foxwoods in the $150,000 Smarty Jones S. Jan. 24 at Oaklawn Park.
The son of 2019 leading sire Into Mischief will look to build momentum from his Dec. 15 victory in the $400,000 Springboard Mile at Remington Park, which was run at the same distance as the Smarty Jones.
Trained by Steve Asmussen, Shoplifted won his debut last July at Saratoga, then ran second in the Hopeful S. (G1), that track’s marquee event for 2-year-olds. He currently sports a record of 2-1-0 from five starts and has earned $385,500.
The Smarty Jones drew a solid field of nine, including graded stakes winners Nucky and Silver Prospector. Shoplifted will break from post 7 with Tyler Gafflione aboard for the first time.
The Smarty Jones is race 8 with a post time of 4:52 p.m. ET.
