After contesting a half-dozen two-turn races, Shoplifted will make his next start in Saturday’s $250,000 Woody Stephens S. (G1) at seven furlongs.
Part of the Belmont S. (G1) undercard, Shoplifted drew the outside post in the compact field of five 3-year-olds. Shoplifted’s lone start at seven furlongs was in last year’s Hopeful S. (G1) at Saratoga, where he finished second in what was his first stakes start.
Since that time, he has won the Springboard Mile and placed in the Smarty Jones S. and posted an overall record of 2-1-1 in eight starts, while earning $444,000 for the partnership of Grandview Equine, Cheyenne Stables LLC and LNJ Foxwoods.
Trained by Steve Asmussen, Shoplifted will be ridden for the first time by Jose Ortiz.
The Stephens is the second race on Saturday, with a post time of 12:25 p.m. ET.
