Cheyenne Stable LLC’s homebred filly Style Points earned her first stakes win in dramatic fashion with a dead-heat victory in the $250,000 Virginia Oaks on Sept. 7 at Colonial Downs.
Style Points, with Manny Franco aboard for the first time for trainer Christophe Clement, had the inside post and settled back into fifth as the field rounded the first turn. She held her position down the backstretch, tracking just behind favorite Deep Satin as the field entered the final bend. Deep Satin took the lead coming into the homestretch, with Style Points kicking into gear on her outside. The two were inseparable all the way to the wire to share the victory.
“I followed the right horse the whole way,” said Franco. “I was following [Deep Satin]. I thought I was going to go by, but I have to give credit to the other filly who battled us to the wire.”
Style Points, 3, is now 3-2-1 in six starts and has earned $281,605. She is by Oscar Performance and is out of the Grade 2 winner Mystical Star, who foaled an Oscar Performance colt this year and was bred again to him for 2025.
