Style Points, a sharp maiden winner last month for Cheyenne Stable LLC, jumps up into stakes company for the first time in the $175,000 Sweetest Chant S. (G3) Feb. 3 at Gulfstream Park.
The 3-year-old filly broke her maiden on Dec. 24 at the south Florida track and at the same 1 1/16-mile distance over the turf course as Saturday’s Sweetest Chant.
Style Points, who was bred by Cheyenne’s Candy Meadows LLC operation, is out of Mystical Star, a winner of the New York S. (G2) and Kentucky Downs Ladies’ Marathon who also placed in six additional stakes and earned $587,214. Style Points’ third dam Degenerate Gal was one of the top handicap mares of the late 1980’s, racking up 10 stakes wins and nearly $1 million in earnings. Style Points is by Oscar Performance, winner of four Grade 1 events, including the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1).
The Sweetest Chant, restricted to 3-year-old fillies, drew a field of eight, with Style Points in post 3. The bay filly will be ridden by Tyler Gaffalione, who was aboard for her maiden victory.
The Sweetest Chant is race 8 on Saturday’s stakes-filled card, with a scheduled post time of 3:38 p.m. ET.
